Zaydi thought, as one of the oldest branches of Shi'ism, offers a distinctive perspective on the future, historical forecasting, and the role of human agency in bringing about social change. In contrast to certain deterministic or revelation-oriented interpretations, Zaydism, drawing on Mu'tazilite rationalism, the doctrine of divine laws and patterns (sunan Allah), and a politically action-oriented conception of agency, regards the future as open, contingent, and dependent upon human action. This article seeks, through an analysis of Zaydi intellectual sources, to demonstrate that although Zaydis do not subscribe to divinatory or supernatural prediction of the future, they uphold the possibility of rationally understanding historical trajectories and the moral responsibility to shape a just future. The research methodology consists of documentary analysis of primary Zaydi sources and the identification and extraction of futures-oriented concepts from Zaydi thought. The extraction of these concepts is based on the author's inductive delimitation; that is, the concepts and conclusions identified are limited to the scope of the sources examined by the author. The findings indicate that, although the foundations of Zaydi thought remain dynamic and evolving, their conception of history, historical recurrence, time, divine laws and patterns, the role of human agency in social transformations, and Mahdism and expectation constitute major futures-oriented concepts within Zaydi thought. Nevertheless, because Zaydis advocate armed uprising (qiyam bi'l-sayf), their primary concern is the present rather than the distant future. It is precisely for this reason that they recognize as Imam one who rises in revolt. In this sense, they do not seek to construct the short-, medium-, and long-term futures in the manner conceptualized in futures studies; rather, the future understood ultimately as the Resurrection is brought into being through their actions in the present.
