In the era of complex and fast-paced transformations, reliance solely on hard technologies is insufficient to address future challenges. Soft technologies, which are rooted in the humanities, social sciences, and management, have emerged as key tools for human-centered innovation and future-building. The main objective of this study is to systematically examine and explain the synergy between soft technologies and futures studies and to propose a conceptual framework for their effective integration. The methodology is based on a qualitative analytical-review approach in which the relevant literature, key theoretical frameworks, and practical case studies are systematically identified, assessed, and integrated to identify patterns of interaction between these two fields. The findings indicate that soft technologies have unique capabilities to enhance futures studies processes, particularly in environmental scanning through qualitative data analysis and crowdsourcing, scenario planning through the facilitation of creative workshops and gamification, and policymaking through the creation of participatory platforms. Conversely, the field of futures studies contributes to the purposeful and responsible development of soft technologies by providing long-term perspectives and assessing their social and ethical implications. The study concludes by presenting an integrated conceptual framework that explains how these two fields can be employed simultaneously to support strategic foresight, policy innovation, and the design of more desirable futures. This framework can serve as a practical guide for policymakers and managers seeking to utilize human and social capacities in addressing the challenges of the 21st century.
