Abstract

Purpose: Civilizations create their own media, and social changes keep pace with technological changes. Given the rapid advancement of technology and innovation across all dimensions and fields, various challenges will arise for organizations, particularly media organizations, in the future, including economic, social, political, and organizational challenges. This study seeks to answer the main question: “What will Iran’s media organizations look like over a 10-year horizon?” Research Methodology: For this purpose, a literature review was used to identify and compile the factors and trends affecting the future of these organizations, while an expert panel was used to analyze the resulting information. Findings: Through this process, 19 trends, 10 future-related propositions, and three images of the future of media organizations within the specified time horizon were synthesized and developed. Conclusion: In the first image, future media organizations are private transnational mega-organizations with global reach, technology-oriented operations, and a platform-based approach to content production and distribution. In the second image, they are large governmental organizations funded by the state and operating under quasi-governmental governance, characterized by inefficient use of technology and a production-and-broadcast approach to content provision. In the third image, they are small, private, and agile organizations (teams) that use technology to produce content and distribute it through platforms. Finally, based on these three images, strategies were proposed from the perspectives of both governing authorities and private actors.
