Drivers of Psychological Operations in Military Organizations: A Case Study of the Islamic Republic of Iran Army

Abstract

The overall aim of this research is to identify the drivers of psychological operations within the Islamic Republic of Iran Army (AJA). To achieve this objective and answer the research question, document analysis and questionnaires were employed as tools. The study is applied in nature, and the research method was trend analysis (trend studies). Given the simultaneous use of qualitative and quantitative methods, a mixed-methods approach was adopted. Data collection was conducted both through fieldwork (questionnaires) and library research (document analysis and literature review). Data analysis was carried out qualitatively through categorization, processing, and judgment, and quantitatively through the design, distribution, and collection of a questionnaire containing closed-ended questions. The data were analyzed using descriptive statistics (e.g., mean, variance, coefficient of variation) and inferential statistics. The closed-ended questions were measured using the Likert scale and interval scale. Finally, a final analysis was conducted to demonstrate the overlap of data obtained from various sources. Following the qualitative analysis, ten indicators were identified. In the quantitative analysis, the research hypotheses were tested using descriptive and inferential statistical formulas, and the following results were obtained: Regarding the drivers, ten indicators identified through qualitative analysis were assessed. Based on inferential analysis using the chi-square test, and considering the critical value and the test statistic, a relationship between the proposed indicators in the driver component and psychological operations in the AJA was established.
