Systematic review of futures studies based on causal layered analysis

Abstract

The aim of the present study is to investigate futures studies based on the layered causal analysis through a systematic review in order to obtain a clear picture in this field. The layered causal analysis is one of the future research methods, which due to its capability in deep analysis of phenomena and its function in creating alternative futures; numerous researches have been conducted in various fields using this method.

In order to find research that can be checked and reviewed, the databases of "Comprehensive Portal of Humanities", "Scientific Information Center of Academic Jihad" and "Google Scholar" in the period from 1390 to 1402 with the keywords "causal layered analysis", "layered analysis" and "Causal Analysis" (internal) and Semantic scholar, Emerald, ScienceDirect and Google Scholar were searched with the keywords CLA, causal Layered Analysis and Layered Analysis in the period from 2000 to 2023 (external), which led to the extraction of 173 works (including articles, theses and scientific report). Finally, by screening these cases based on the criteria of "having a futures studies approach", "using causal layered analysis” and publishing in reliable publications, 83 cases were selected. Among the results of this survey, we can mention "serious prominence of social content in domestic research", "predominance of social, technological and political content in foreign research", "leadership of the three countries of Australia, Finland and Iran in the field of applying the CLA" and "printing more foreign articles" in Futures magazine.
