Abstract

The relations between Saudi Arabia and Iraq, after almost a quarter of a century of diplomatic relations, have entered a phase of interaction and dialogue since 2016 and are gradually developing until today. The relations between these two countries are important for Iran for many reasons. The most important of them is the geopolitical and geostrategic position of these two countries in the West Asia region, which can affect the surrounding environment of the Islamic Republic. The political and economic re-entry of Saudi Arabia in Iraq can be caused by the internal processes of Iraq and the desire to create a regional balance. Considering the importance of the relations between the two countries for the security environment of the Islamic Republic of Iran, the current research aims to evaluate the future of the relations between these two countries, and seeks to answer the question, what will the future of the relations between Saudi Arabia and Iraq be like in the Saudi 2030 vision? The findings indicate that in the next few years, Riyadh's possible positions and policies towards Baghdad will be influenced by three drivers: a. Oil competition, b. Iraq's internal developments and c. It will be a geopolitical competition. The method used is a research process based on the study of strategic documents and texts.
